Spring in Saint Louis is such a beautiful time of year—flowers blooming, the weather warming up, and everything looking so vibrant. It’s the perfect season for a photo session, whether you’re planning to capture your little ones, get some family shots, or just want a few portraits of yourself. Here are a few tips to help you make the most of your spring photography session.

1. Find a Beautiful Outdoor Spot
Spring is all about being outdoors, so take advantage of the season! Saint Louis has some gorgeous spots for photos—think parks, gardens, and fields of flowers. Longview Farm Park, Forest Park, and Tower Grove Park are some of my favorite places to shoot, and if you want to mix it up, places like Queeny Park or Lafayette Square Park can surprise you with their beauty too. Look for spots where trees are blooming or soft paths are scattered with petals for a relaxed, natural vibe.

2. Wear Light, Breezy Clothing
Spring is the perfect time to go for light and airy clothing. Pastels, florals, and soft neutrals all work really well for the season. You’ll want your outfits to complement the natural surroundings, so avoid anything too heavy or busy. Let the beauty of the season and the natural light do most of the work!

3. Golden Hour is Magical
If you can, aim for golden hour—the two hours right before sunset. The light is soft and warm, and it adds a magical glow to everything around you. If you’re an early bird, the first couple of hours after sunrise work wonders too. Just a heads-up, I don’t currently have morning sessions listed on my website, but feel free to reach out and we can make it happen!

4. Add Some Fun Props
Spring brings a playful, whimsical vibe to photo sessions, so why not bring a prop or two? Think flowers, a picnic blanket, or a cute basket. It’s a great way to add variety and personality to your photos. I’ve even had moms bring in a metal bathtub for their babies or fresh flowers—super cute and creative!

5. Capture Some Movement
Spring is all about new life and growth, so don’t be afraid to add a little movement to your photos. Let the kids run through a field, hair blowing in the breeze, or capture a couple walking hand-in-hand down a path. Some of the most special photos are those candid moments where everyone’s just being themselves.

6. Embrace the Weather
Spring weather can be a bit unpredictable, but that’s part of the charm! A light rain or a cloudy sky can actually create a really cool atmosphere for photos. I’ve had some of my favorite sessions on rainy days, so don’t stress if the weather isn’t perfect. Sometimes the best photos come from those unplanned moments!

7. Bring Your Pets!
Spring is a great time to include your furry friends in the photos. The weather is usually perfect for your pets to join in on the fun, and they can add a lot of energy and joy to your session.

Conclusion:
A spring photography session is the perfect way to capture the beauty of the season and make memories that will last. Whether you’re taking family portraits or just enjoying the fresh air, spring brings so much to the table. Embrace the colors, the light, and the little moments, and you’ll have photos that truly reflect the spirit of spring!
